Is Airsoft or Paintball More Painful?

by admin on January 2, 2012

Airsoft is not as painful as paintball. A paintball weighs between 2 and 3 grams, typically. A normal airsoft BB weighs between 0.2 and 0.3 grams. That's 1/10th of the weight flying at you, at only 150% of the speed.

Imagine, say, a 175 gram frisbee flying at your head at a normal frisbee speed. It kinda smarts, but it's not really that painful. Now, attach another 1.5 kg (3.5 lbs) to that frisbee, and make it go a little slower (50% slower). You're not going to be thinking about the difference in the speed when almost 4 pounds come flying at your head.

Also, airsoft is cheaper overall. Protective equipment will cost you about 35-75 dollars on average. BBs cost about 20 dollars per 5000, whereas paintballs are, at their cheapest, 50 dollars per 5000. An airsoft gun will cost between 150 and 250 dollars on average. A very cheap paintball gun, with hopper, barrel, and tank will cost 100 dollars at the least. A good paintball marker costs many times more, often going up to 300 dollars for just the marker.

Paintball is more expensive and hurts more than airsoft. However, it is currently much more popular, and many people say it's more 'fun'. I agree. However, airsoft could be just as fun if it were to develop a proper crowd. Airsoft is so similar to paintball, that you could replace paintball with it, add an honor system, and have almost the exact same thing (too bad people are usually not very 'honorable').
